The technology of using ulexite ore as raw material to prepare boric acid and borax developed by our Institute in 2001 is applicable to domestic and imported ulexite ore, which was initially industrialized in Qinghai in 2001, and it is mature, advanced and reliable.
Ulexite has molecular formula NaCa[B3B2O7(OH)4]·6H2O, relative molecular mass 405, theoretical content of B2O3 43%, actual content: Qinghai Big Caidan Lake ore 8%-16%, Small Caidan Lake ore 16%-25%, Tibet Ali ore 25%-27%, and South America ore 30%-40%. It is suitable to produce borax with atmospheric method and produce high quality boric acid with single-step method. In particular, production of boric acid is featured by simple flow, little acid volume consumption, and good product quality that can reach international standard.
According to annual production of 1,0000t boric acid, only equipment investment is 3 million Yuan. Main production equipment include acidolysis system, filtration system, crystallization and separation system. Product quality can reach the standard of products of the same category in Chile. Comprehensive cost of product/t is (ore B2O3 is calculated at 25%) about 4,600 Yuan according to the present price of raw material, and B2O3 yield is 96%.
